Integrating CartGenie with Klarna

Enable Klarna (BNPL - Buy Now Pay Later) as an option for your customers at checkout

Klarna lets your customers pay the way they want—whether that’s paying now, paying later, or spreading the cost over time. By offering Klarna at checkout, you give shoppers more flexibility and confidence to complete their purchase, which can lead to higher conversion rates and larger order values.

When you integrate Klarna with your CartGenie store, eligible customers will see Klarna as a payment option during checkout and can choose the plan that works best for them.

This guide will walk you through the steps to enable Klarna in CartGenie, outline requirements for merchants and customers, and show you how to test the integration to ensure everything is working properly.

Add Klarna to CartGenie

Step 1

To enable Klarna, simply connect Stripe in CartGenie Settings > Payment Gateways.

Connect Stripe

Step 2

In CartGenie Payment Gateways page, be sure that the toggle for Klarna is enabled.

Step 3

Then in Webflow, ensure that your checkout page has the necessary Klarna payment tab option. If not, you can use our Designer Extension to simply add the “Payment Form” block to your checkout page (found in Create Product Pages > Components > Checkout).

Done!

Publish your Webflow site and go to the checkout page with an item in your cart to test it.

Troubleshooting why Klarna is not showing up at checkout

There are several reasons why Klarna might not show up at checkout. Here is a quick list to run down to troubleshoot this issue:

Reason #1: CartGenie’s “Test Order Mode” is enabled

CartGenie’s test order mode only works with credit cards and so all other payment methods are hidden at checkout. Turn off test order mode in Payment Gateway settings to test a live Klarna payment.

Reason #2: Not enabled in Stripe account

CartGenie should enable Klarna automatically when you connect your Stripe account. You can ensure that it is enabled by going to your Stripe payment settings: https://dashboard.stripe.com/settings/payment_methods

Click on “Default: CartGenie configuration” and find Klarna in the list and ensure it is enabled.

Back in CartGenie payment gateway settings, click on the refresh icon in the Stripe card to ensure we recognize these changes.

Reason #3: Browser cache

Sometimes your browser might cache your payment settings and options from previous page loads (especially if you visited the checkout page prior to enabling Klarna). Try clearing your browser cache to see if this resolves the issue.

Reason #4: Customer or business country is not supported

Klarna is only available for certain Stripe account countries, customer countries, and currencies. If either the store’s connected Stripe account or the customer’s country is not supported by Klarna, Klarna may not appear at checkout. See the list of supported countries here.

Reason #5: Not using a supported currency

Klarna requires that orders must be placed using one of the following currencies: AUD, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, NOK, NZD, PLN, RON, SEK, or USD.

Reason #6: Customer country and checkout currency are not compatible

Klarna availability depends on the customer’s country, the checkout currency, and the order amount. For example, if a Swedish store charges in SEK, Klarna may be available for Swedish customers, but it may not appear for a customer in the United States or another country where SEK is not an eligible Klarna checkout currency. If your store sells internationally, Klarna may only appear when the checkout currency is supported for that customer’s country.

Reason #7: You are not using a secure version of the site (https)

Klarna and other live payment methods generally require checkout to run on a secure HTTPS page. If your site is loading over HTTP, has SSL issues, or has mixed-content errors, Klarna may not appear or may fail during checkout. Make sure the page loads with a valid HTTPS URL, then republish and test again.

Reason #8: The order amount is too low or too high

Klarna has minimum and maximum order amounts that vary by country, currency, and Klarna payment option. If the cart total is outside Klarna’s allowed range, Klarna may not appear at checkout.

Reason #9: Cart includes a subscription item

Currently Klarna does not work with CartGenie’s subscription products. If you want to allow customers to purchase a subscription, please ensure you have Stripe enabled and the credit card tab available at checkout.

How to Disable Klarna in CartGenie

If you have connected Stripe but want to disable Klarna, you can do this 2 ways (either works):

  1. Remove the Klarna tab from your Checkout page

  2. Disable the toggle for Klarna in the Payment Gateway settings
