# Connect Google Analytics to CartGenie

CartGenie can automatically send ecommerce events to your Google Analytics 4 (GA4) account, giving you deeper insight into how customers interact with your store — from browsing products to completing a purchase.

If you're running any kind of marketing — ads, email campaigns, SEO, social media — connecting GA4 to CartGenie lets you understand what's actually driving revenue.

GA4's Purchase Journey report shows you how many visitors go from adding items to their cart through to completing a purchase, and where they drop off. This helps you identify friction points in your checkout flow. When purchase events flow into GA4, you can tie revenue back to specific traffic sources. You'll know whether your Google Ads, Instagram posts, or email campaigns are actually generating sales — not just clicks.

> **Info:** To prevent conflicts, **only add your Google Analytics tag directly in CartGenie rather than through your site's Custom Code**. This ensures everything works together seamlessly.

## What events does CartGenie send?

Once connected, CartGenie sends the following GA4 ecommerce events automatically. Each event contains the necessary information such as product name, price, quantity, etc.

### **View Item**

Fires when a customer views an individual product page on your site.

### **Add to Cart**

Fires when a customer adds a product to their cart. In GA4, this populates the “add\_to\_cart” event and feeds into reports like the Ecommerce Purchases report and the Purchase Journey funnel.

### **Remove From Cart**

Fires when a customer removes an item from their cart. Useful for understanding which products get second-guessed.

### **Begin Checkout**

Fires when the customer initiates checkout (goes to checkout page) after adding an item to the cart

### Add Shipping Info

Fires the first time the shipping address is completed / checked for validation (regardless of whether it passes or not). This event is not fired if all items are not shippable.

### **Purchase**

Fired when a customer successfully completes an order. This event includes the transaction ID, order total, currency, tax, shipping cost, and a full breakdown of the items purchased (including product name, variant, price, and quantity for each). In GA4, this populates the “purchase” event and drives your core revenue and conversion reporting.

> **Success:** You don't need to configure any tags, triggers, or code on your Webflow site — CartGenie handles everything behind the scenes.

## How to connect your GA4 account

### Step 1: Find your GA4 Measurement ID

Your Measurement ID is a code that starts with **G-** followed by a combination of numbers and letters (for example, `G-AB1CD2EF3G`). It tells Google Analytics which property should receive your store's event data.

To find it:

1. Sign in to [Google Analytics](https://analytics.google.com).

2. Click the **Admin** gear icon in the bottom-left corner.

3. In the Property column, click **Data Streams** (under "Data collection and modification").

4. Select your **Web** data stream. If you don't have one yet, click "Add stream" and follow the prompts to create one for your website.

5. Your **Measurement ID** is displayed near the top of the stream details page. Copy it.

### Step 2: Enter your Measurement ID in CartGenie

1. Log in to your [CartGenie dashboard](https://dash.cartgenie.com).

2. Navigate to **Settings** → [**Sales Channels**](https://dash.cartgenie.com/settings/sales-channels).

3. Find the **Google Settings** section.

4. Paste your **GA4 Measurement ID** into the field provided.

5. Click **Save**.

That's it. CartGenie will begin sending `add_to_cart` and `purchase` events to your GA4 property automatically.

> **Warning:** **Important**: Your Google Analytics tag should **only** be added through CartGenie. Adding the same tag to your site's Custom Code can create conflicts and cause tracking issues.

### Step 3: Verify it's working

After saving your Measurement ID, add an item to cart or place a test order to confirm events are flowing correctly:

1. In Google Analytics, go to **Reports** → **Realtime Overview**.

2. Place a test order on your CartGenie store (you can use CartGenie's test mode).

3. You should see the `add_to_cart` and `purchase` events appear in the Realtime report within a few seconds.

Note that it can take **24–48 hours** for event data to appear in standard GA4 reports and explorations. The Realtime report is the fastest way to confirm your setup is working.

## Frequently asked questions

**Do I need Google Tag Manager?** No. CartGenie sends events directly to GA4 — no GTM setup, custom tags, or code snippets required.

**Will this work with my existing GA4 setup?** Yes. CartGenie's events will appear alongside any other events you're already collecting in GA4. They won't interfere with your existing tracking.

**I don't have Google Analytics yet. How do I get started?** Create a free account at [analytics.google.com](https://analytics.google.com). Google will walk you through creating a property and a web data stream. Once that's done, grab your Measurement ID and follow the steps above.

## Troubleshooting Google Analytics in CartGenie

If you’re not seeing any traffic in Google Analytics or the events are not being displayed in the realtime overview, then please ensure each of the previous steps are completed and then check for these edge cases:

### #1: ID is entered incorrectly in CartGenie

Double-check that your Measurement ID is entered correctly in the CartGenie dashboard — extra spaces or an incorrect ID are the most common issues.

### #2: You’ve already added GA elsewhere

Ensure that your tag is **only** installed through CartGenie.

Having it added to your site's Custom Code or anywhere else as well can cause conflicts and prevent tracking from working correctly – especially the Ecommerce events CartGenie adds to GA.

### #3: You're using an Ad Blocker or Private Browsing Mode

Ad blockers and certain browser privacy settings can prevent Google Analytics from tracking visitors and events.

If you're testing your integration, try temporarily disabling any ad blockers or privacy extensions and visiting your live website in a regular browser window.

**Note:** Incognito or Private Browsing modes don't necessarily block Google Analytics, but certain browsers and privacy settings may interfere with tracking.

### #4: Your Cookie Consent Settings Are Blocking Analytics

If your website uses a cookie consent banner or privacy management tool, Google Analytics may not track visitors until they've accepted analytics cookies.

When testing, ensure you've accepted the appropriate cookies and check that your consent settings aren't preventing Google Analytics from loading.

### #5: Your Google Analytics Data Hasn't Appeared Yet

Google Analytics doesn't always display data immediately.

While events typically appear in the Realtime report within a few minutes, standard reports can take 24–48 hours to fully process data.

If you've recently connected Google Analytics, try visiting your live website and interacting with a few products, then check your Realtime report again.

### #6: You're Testing on an Unpublished or Staging Website

When testing your integration, make sure you're visiting your live, published website rather than relying solely on the Webflow Designer or an unpublished preview.

If you've recently made changes to your site's tracking configuration, publish your Webflow site again before testing.
