# How to import categories

Upload a CSV to add product categories

Instead of adding them manually, you can import categories directly into CartGenie!

## When Importing Products

The **easiest** way to import categories and tie them to your products is to simply import the products themselves!

When importing products, if you add a category name to the “Product Category” column, then CartGenie automatically creates a category with that name and adds the product you were importing to it.

## When Importing Categories

You can also easily import a list of categories using a csv file. Simply go to the [Categories page](https://dash.cartgenie.com/categories#basic_info) in CartGenie and click on the “Import” button in the top right.

> **Warning:** Note: Importing categories this way will not assign any products to them. You will need to go back into your products and add them to the category once created.

Upload a CSV with the following columns:

-   **Name**
    
    -   The name of your category
        
    -   _Ex: Featured Products_
        
-   **Slug**
    
    -   The slug of the category page
        
    -   _Ex: featured-products_
