We designed it this way primarily for ease of deletion of CMS items (manually and automatically).
When CartGenie creates your CMS Collections for Products and Categories, we add a multi-reference field in each that references each other. So your Products will have a multi-ref field that is called “Category” and your Categories has a multi-reference field that is called “Products.”
Currently, CartGenie will add all of a product’s categories inside of that product’s reference field. If, we also added the products to the Category’s reference field, it would cause problems deleting the items as you must first unlink them before you can delete either the product or the category it was added to.
This is especially true when you are using a CartGenie template that comes with several products pre-loaded onto it which must be manually deleted. It can be very time consuming.
Despite the collections not referencing the products, you can easily create collection pages and lists in Webflow.
First, add the Collection List block in Webflow.
Connect the Collection List to your Products collection.
Then, add a filter in the block settings on the right hand sidebar.
You can filter by the Category that is added to each product.
