Template Developer Overview

Welcome to CartGenie! We’re glad to be partnering with you to grow the future of e-commerce on Webflow.

Here are some answers to common questions:

What does the design process look like for creating templates?

You can create a free CartGenie account at https://dash.cartgenie.com/login (click Signup) and get access to our Designer Extension to generate the product, checkout, and confirmation pages with all the necessary blocks.

You’ll see the Setup Guide in your dashboard which will walk you through all the steps to create your site template.

Feel free to style and rearrange elements on these pages as you wish, but be sure not to remove any CartGenie blocks or custom attributes or else the app won’t function.

The rest is up to you! Feel free to design out a homepage, about page, product list page, etc. You have full freedom to make it your own and something you think your customers will be interested in using.

Can I convert a Webflow Ecommerce template I created to make it compatible with CartGenie?

Yes, you can!

We typically recommend using a CMS site with CartGenie as it is cheaper for your customers and has less restrictions (WF prevents changing store page slugs and collection names). We’ve written out a help doc here on migrating an Ecommerce site to a CMS site:

Alternatively, you can add CartGenie to an existing Webflow Ecommerce site and the two can work simultaneously. You’ll simply need to choose unique names for the CartGenie products collection and pages. Read more in our help doc here:

Can I test out CartGenie?

Yes! You can create a free account at https://dash.cartgenie.com and connect a CMS site to set up a store and test it out!

Will CartGenie help me sell my template?

Yes! Once your template is live, we will link to your site on our website so customers can easily purchase it (or download for free). We’ll also be doing ongoing marketing efforts on social media, emails, etc. that will feature CartGenie templates.

Does CartGenie take a commission on template sales?

No. The templates are 100% your own property and we do not take any commission on sales.

We can direct customers to either the Webflow marketplace or your own portfolio site if you wish to collect payment yourself. Or, if you wish to give it away for free, you can simply showcase it to your profile and let others clone it for themselves.

Can I give a template away for free?

Yes! In your Webflow project settings, in the “General” tab, you will find an option to “Showcase site.”

Enable this option and then go into the “Edit public page” settings.

Here you will see an option to allow others to clone this site. Turn this on.

Then send us the link so we can publish it on our website to let customers know!

Can I sell CartGenie templates in other marketplaces?

Yes! The templates are your own property and can be sold on any marketplace you wish – including your own personal site.

Does each template buyer need to have a CartGenie account?

Yes, though they don’t need to have an account prior to purchasing your template.

They can create an account after setting up their site in Webflow before they can go live with their store. Their CartGenie account is how they create products, add coupon codes, manage orders, etc. We’re starting out in Free beta and will always have a free plan for people to test out our platform before scaling their business.

Can I use CartGenie with other page builders?

Currently, no. CartGenie is built natively on Webflow and will only work with Webflow websites currently.
